So when I get obsessed with something, I like to share my obsession with other people so they too, can become obsessed. If you love authentic NY style pizza, but decided to ditch dairy (or just want to try something new!) you've gotta check out MORA PIZZA in Gainesville, FL.
Mora Pizza, which opened less than 2 months ago is located on University Ave. in midtown. Jon, the owner and famous pizza maker, has knocked my socks off every time I try his pizza... he has at least a dozen crazy specialty pizzas and is now offering calzones, strombolis and hoagies loaded with faux meats from the Zen Butcher. (Since making this original post, the calzones are my new obsession). Some of his crazy options include ziti loaded pizza, "Ben's Burger", loaded nachos, TACO PIZZA, buffalo chik'n tofu, greek goddess, garlic parmesan and who knows what else.. he's literally coming up with something new and creative every day and often has options that are not on the menu. If you're in more of a dessert mood you've got to try the OREO CHEESECAKE PIZZA. I had a special one made special for my birthday and I was totally in love with it! You can also get garlic knots that are better than any knots I've ever had, and they're entirely vegan. I suggest ordering some while you wait for your pizza.
The best way to know what pizzas are available at Mora on any given day is to follow him on IG @mora_pizza. You can also call ahead to see what kinds are available and order your pizza to be ready when you arrive. Slices are $5 and a whole specialty pie is $25 which is an outstanding deal, for a vegan specialty vegan pizza that will NOT disappoint, and can last you lunches throughout the week if you're not sharing with friends. You can even mix and match different types on the same pizza. He also offers a discount if you make a post about your pizza on IG! Since his pizzas are authentic and each is specialty made to order, if you're ordering a whole pie you may have to wait a little for it to be made for you. I suggest calling ahead of time to order, or just plan to wait there. The restaurant is comfortable with TV's and the outdoor patio area has plenty of seating and a cozy atmosphere.
What I love the most is that Jon is a super nice guy, and he's vegan himself and knows how to cater and please a vegan crowd. In case you were wondering, he does have non-vegan pizzas too, the reason being that he doesn't want to "scare off" the non-vegans that are often turned off by vegan food. The cool thing is he converts a majority of meat eaters once they see the array of vegan pizza options.. they usually opt for a vegan option instead. But in case they prefer their real meat and cheese... he has something that will please everyone. He's transforming the world.. one pizza at a time!
