Red Velvet Smoothie

This healthy superfood smoothie is packed with antioxidants, calcium, iron, magnesium and will help with a mood and energy boost. Also alleviates menstrual cramps. Delicious, and a great starter for breakfast, or a nutrient-packed meal-replacer or snack during the day. Give this a go next time you're craving a sweet treat and your body will thank you! This type of smoothie is my go to when I'm feeling down or achy and it really makes a difference.

Ingredients:

1 handful of spinach, or 1 tablespoon spirulina
2-3 tablespoons of raw unsweetened cacao/cocoa powder
1 cup of berries - blackberries, blueberries, strawberries or raspberries
1 frozen banana
milk - almond, coconut, soy, etc. (I loved using a lavendar blueberry almond milk I got from Trader Joe's but plain works just as fine!)

optional add ins - ice (to make it more frothy/cold), coffee for extra caffeine, nut butter for a protein boost such as peanut or almond, and/or any other fruits of your choice that you think complement a chocolate flavor well

Directions:

Add ingredients to a blender and fill with milk to be level with all the ingredients. Blend until smooth. Add less milk for a thicker smoothie and more to thin it out. Enjoy!
