My last smoothie bowl kick resulted in a post on how to make your own smoothie bowls with some criticism for the dense amount of seeds n things I add to my bowl that certainly result in some necessary flossing afterwards (sorry-- I just deal with it, love my seeds!). Yesterday I had a Big Island Bowl from a new place in Gainesville that consisted of an acai base, topped with bananas, gogi berries, granola and local honey. Delicious as it may be, we opted out of spending $10 on a smoothie bowl again and went home to make our own (buying one was just a reminder to save some money and get back on our damn smoothie bowl kick!-- a pretty feel good and healthy kick to be on!) Anyways, here's a recipe for a quick "tropical" bowl we threw together with stuff we had on hand, but these bowls are versatile and you can top them with whatever you want! They're pretty easy to make, they're basically just a smoothie with some fresh toppings on top to add texture and distinct tastes vs. everything blended together (and may make you feel more full since you're eating some solid foods there too). Once again as you may have noticed in some of my recipes, I fail to measure things--- but when it comes to fruits it really doesn't matter so just go with it :) Enjoy this healthy breakfast, snack or dessert!
Ingredients:
Frozen blueberries
Frozen strawberries
orange juice/another juice of your choice
sliced banana
chunks of fresh papaya
flaked coconut
chia seeds or cacao nibs
Directions:
Blend together your berries and juice in a blender until you have a thick smoothie-like mixture (fill the juice up in your blender about ½ way as high as your frozen berries go). Pour your "base" into a bowl and save any extra for a quick pick me up smoothie later on or the next morning in the fridge.
Top your bowl with your fresh fruit, coconut, and seeds/nibs. MMMMM enjoy!
