A year ago today we brought home our black little gem from the shelter.
We walked into the shelter that day "just planning to pick up another foster" and had no preference of who we brought home with us. We asked Martha, one of the shelter staff to pick for us, and she randomly brought us out Onyx, (then named Ninja) and said how about this one? Him and Manny played well together and he liked Weiner, so we said yeah sure, why not... figured the shelter wouldn't miss having yet another unwanted black pitbull. Within days I fell in love. We "tried" bringing him to an adoption event but realized how empty my life would feel if I let him go, so I talked out every potential adopter of taking him and he came back home with us. Josh donated blood at last year's blood drive on 2/13 (the anniversary of our old dog Alvin's death) to adopt Onyx for me as a Valentine's gift. This guy is my little Valentine and my perfect little black baby I would never be able to let go of. Although we are notorious for fostering failing, Onyx is still a special one of a kind little guy and was definitely meant to be with us. He's my little soul mate <3 despite all the holes he digs, how many times he jumps the fence, him sending Manny to get stitches, his picky eating habits, his forever existing limp from some old pre-existing injury that requires expensive supplements to keep him comfortable, and him sending many lizards, toads and beach mice over the rainbow bridge........ I love you so much Onyx, and can't picture my life without you in it. Happy "Brought Ya Home as Just a Foster Day"... we will celebrate your official "We Signed the Paperwork and Actually Adopted You Day" in another 6 weeks
