Watermelon Juice

Watermelon is packed with electrolytes, vitamins, and sweet goodness. Being the perfect fruit for a hot summer day, it not only is low in calories but very filling and hydrating. Along with eating the fruit, you can also enjoy a glass of fresh watermelon juice that is a natural alternative for Gatorade or a rehydrating sports drink as it's filled with natural sugars and electrolytes to help you rehydrate and prevent fluid imbalances in your body.

If you wish to enjoy whole pieces of fruit along with juice, simply slice the watermelon in half and use an ice cream scoop to scoop out pieces of fruit. Store fruit in a large bowl. As you remove more and more fruit, plenty of juice will remain. Poor the juice into a pitcher or large jar.

If you want to enjoy more juice and have the entire watermelon made into fruit, you can cut up slices of the entire melon (including the rind- the white part between the red fruit and the green skin) and feed into a juicer. The rind has plenty of vitamins and nutrients along with chlorophyll, and you won't taste it at all mixed with the sweetness of the rest of the juice.

Juice can be drank cold with ice, and herbs you can add include mint, basil or cilantro for added flavor. For a thicker beverage, add juice to a smoothie with frozen strawberries and chia seeds or other fruit of your choice.

In addition to hydration, watermelon provides numerous benefits including carotenoids, lypocene, citrulline, vitamins A, C, B1 & B6, potassium, magnesium, anti-oxidants and is alkalinizing to the body (helps maintain acid-alkaline balance to neutralize toxins).
