Friends of the Library Book Sale!

The Friends of the Library Book Sale in Gainesville, FL is back! It's literally a huge warehouse full of books of all kinds... sorted out for your convenience, and at dirt cheap prices, most under a dollar, and the rest under $4 with a few exceptions. (like a practically new huge amazing Encyclopedia of Butterflies of the world I found there for $6.. still not bad!) This spring, the book sale opened yesterday (Saturday 4/25) and will continue to be open every day from 12-6pm ending this Wednesday. Tuesday the books are all ½ price and Wednesday everything is 10 cents. The Friends of the Library is a warehouse located on Main Street in Gainesville. All profits help the Alachua County Library District and help with community literacy projects. Better get going before they run out of books!

These are just a few gems I found yesterday. I had the goal of finding some vegan books and maybe browsing the biology & animal sections since most of the books I ever read are on these subjects, but since we are switching apartments soon and are already short on space, we had to limit our intake of more books this time. Some of these cook books have tons of amazing healthy vegan recipes, a great opportunity for me to try some new things! I always need an inspiration and can use a good read on Animal Rights perspectives, and also some guidance on how to stay strong and keep trying to live a cruelty free lifestyle as the majority of the world chooses not to. I need the strength to keep going and not give up, and books can always help with that :)

We also picked up some randoms including; a cockatiel care guide (since we did just adopt one), a "Freshwater aquarium problem solver" (since we both have a brown thumb when it comes to maintaining a freshwater tank :/ ), a field guide to marine life when snorkeling in Florida & the Bahamas (perfect for our upcoming trip to the keys!), the hardcover encyclopedia of Butterflies (well ya know, kind of my passion in a sense), Rachel Carson's classic "Silent Spring", (because although we learned all about it in college, we both swear we never read it),  and another novel on the intelligence of animals just to add to my collection of such books. These randoms are just proof for you that you can literally find books on the subjects of whatever your passion and interests are and they are in great condition. If you're a book lover, do the environment a favor and don't buy new ones since the production of books requires the destruction of trees, but by buying used ones you're donating to a good cause and also giving used existing books a new life and a new home, until one day you are done with them, and can either gift them to the perfect friend that would enjoy a good read, or donate them.

As books become more and more outdated with the internet and technology, I find comfort in having tons of my favorites to choose from on my own bookshelf whenever I want a good read or need one for reference.

If you're interested in the Fall FOL Book Sale, the dates this year will be October 24-28.

Happy Book Hunting!
