The Adventures of Alvin: Episode 9

Natural Born Hunter and Killer (some upsetting content)

Alvin's need for eating and killing and attacking things comes hand in hand with his other worst behaviors. Besides lunging at every dog he ever sees, chasing rabbits and birds outside including the birds that are miles high up in the clouds; causing him to run into fences and things as he glares straight up into the sky.. he's a handful.

Fortunately for all the baby rabbits he has collected in his mouth over the years, springer spaniels come equipped with ultra soft jowls since they are bred for bird retrieving... and Alvin has the added benefit of a lack of teeth due to all the rawhides he has made disappear, so the baby rabbits can usually be pried from his lips unharmed.

The opossums my mom has found "dead" from Alvin usually are only playing dead. Fortunately Alvin is also too dumb to realize they are just playing, and he thinks he had achieved what he is after, and just bounces away looking for the next thing he can kill.

And most unfortunately, every spring time in the same spot is a nest of doom and gloom for the same robin that returns and attempts to bear and raise her young every year. A bird feeder that no longer holds seed, appears to be the perfect sturdy location for a nest. So every year, for probably the past 5 years at least, a robin makes her nest there in the exact same spot, and has 3 or 4 chicks that survive until they grow their feathers. As the mother bird comes to feed the babies, Alvin loves to disrupt the process and try to keep her away by jumping to snatch her in his mouth. With the added danger, she will stay away longer but still returns when it appears safe as she must take the risk to feed her babies. My mom has had to surround the bird feeder with every piece of yard furniture and all of the recycle bins just to keep Alvin out of it. It usually works and keeps all safe and sound until the day comes yearly when the babies must learn to fly. Occasionally a lucky bird will be a natural born flier on his or her first flight attempt, and escape to safely. As for the others, they have all fell to the same doom and gloom and there has been nothing we can do to keep him away no matter how much we barricade the area with fencing and wire he has always pushed through. As the babies take turns attempting to take flight, Alvin waits and catches each one in his mouth, ending their existance. I hate him endlessly for his murder and cruelty... as domesticated dogs are not a natural predator of the American robin. UGH!
