Sometime in 2005 or 2006: The Ibuprofen Incident
Alvin got his mouth on a sealed bottle of ibuprofen capsules one day that had been stored out of his reach yet he still managed to get, and ate the whole bottle and its contents. Again, we spent hours in the vet's waiting room, except the outcome was a little different this time. We actually had to leave the vet's office without Alvin coming home with us.
We were left with the news that he had a very small chance of survival, being lower than 25%. His body and organs were poisoned, and he had to be on IV fluids 24/7. He had puked up blood and remnants of his insides before rushing him over, which to me resembled black cottage cheese. They said he would need to be hospitalized for at least 2 weeks to get his levels up to normal.
I was devastated.. and forgetting all the damage he caused and the frustrations he had brought on to my mom and I, I prayed for his survival and asked all my friends to do the same. 4 days later, we got a call from the vet to immediately come and get him out of there, because not only were his blood levels close to normal and was he doing fine, but he was out of control and destructive, and they couldn't keep him there anymore. Once again, Alvin returned home with us, and beat the odds of his life being taken away.
