Lion’s Mane Mushroom Steaks

This is definitely my FAVORITE way to cook a good ole’ lion’s mane mushroom! Love mushrooms but not always a fan of the texture? This method will ensure they’re meaty, flavorful, tender, and the best substitute to eating dead animal flesh. It’s very easy to keep animals off your plate when you can find tasty and wholesome alternatives! Lions Mane Mushrooms also have plenty of research proven medicinal benefits that revolve around brain health.. including improved memory, protection against dementia and Alzheimer’s, regeneration of brain cells, relief for mild depression and anxiety symptoms, plus aiding in the healing of nervous system related injuries. What are you waiting for, go grab some lion’s mane and let’s get cooking!

First off.. where can you get fresh lion’s mane mushrooms anyway?? They’re currently a trending supplement that people can easily find in powdered or capsule form to use for medicinal purposes.. but if you haven’t actually tried a FRESHLY grown lion’s mane mushroom in it’s soft tender form you’re missing out! We find them at our local farmer’s markets, and if you’re interested in mushroom growing it’s even possible to grow your own! Once you get your hands on some, here is how to go about making these tasty steaks!

Ingredients:

Cooking oil that can handle high heat (I use olive)

Fresh lion’s mane mushrooms

Fresh garlic, grated

Spices (anything that’s similar to an all-spice or “poultry” seasoning, or a blend typically used for grilling food or steak. I love to add fresh thyme and rosemary!

Vegan BBQ sauce or another sauce of your choice.

Directions:

Preheat your oven to 400 degrees F.

Get out a wok or large cast iron pan. Drizzle some oil throughout the pan to evenly coat, add some fresh garlic and seasonings, and put the stove on medium-high heat. Lay down your sweet lil lion’s mane mushrooms into your seasoned pan. Don’t chop them up or anything first… if there’s a remnant of a stem (which would be hard) just cut that part off, but leave the rest! Once they start to sizzle, use the bottom of a clean frying pan, cast iron pan, or a large plate to gently “press” on the mushrooms as they continue to sizzle in the oil. Cook until the bottom of the mushrooms are golden brown.

Drizzle each mushroom with some more oil, add more seasonings if you’d like, and flip em all over with a spatula. Repeat the process - press, sizzle, and check to see when they’re golden brown. Repeat again on other side if necessary until those mushrooms start to gain a meaty appearance. You don’t want them to burn so watch your heat and keep an eye out. Turn heat down if necessary.

When they seem to be cooked through, transfer to a baking sheet or leave them in your cast iron/pan if it’s oven safe, and bake in your preheated oven for 10 minutes.

Remove from the oven, and add some BBQ sauce (or sauce of choice) to your pan or wok. Coat the mushroom steaks in the sauce and cook evenly on the stovetop on both sides until they begin soaking up the sauce. Serve on a dish with your favorites veggies as a side. Enjoy!
