This is one of the only places I've been where you can see hundreds of people and dogs co-existing peacefully on a clean public stretch of beach- all breeds, all ages, all types of people.. people swimming, dogs on rafts, dogs playing fetch in the water, dogs playing in packs, in pairs, or just relaxing alone, rarely any scuffles as in general people are very responsible and keep an eye on their dogs at all times. As a bully mom, I enjoy seeing plenty of "bully" breeds of dogs without discrimination. There are no breed restrictions in this area or on this beach. There are of course often the people that are quick to blame and judge our pitbulls for ANYTHING that seems to go wrong in a pack of playing dogs, so we of course are extra responsible to keep a very close eye on them and we have never had issues. They're dog-friendly and play nice with other dogs and do not cause issues. They enjoy playing, sunbathing, and taking a nice dip in the water.
The Venice Dog Beach is also a rare gem because the whole stretch of Venice beaches in the Manasota area have lots of fossilized shark teeth, so you often see people collecting fossils while their dogs have the time of their lives. To learn more about shark teeth collecting, check out this post I made a few years ago. Being on the gulf side, you also get stunning sunsets every night too. The one place to enjoy and do it all, while being able to include your dog in on the fun. Between the beach and the parking lot is a nice dog park with a dog wash station where you can bathe your dog after their time on the beach. The best beach for dog parents and families in my opinion-- highly highly recommend. Of course, right now is off-season for the Venice area and that is definitely the best time to go. When the snow-birds are in town (Thanksgiving through Spring) the beach can get really crowded. If you visit, let me know what you think. It's one of my favorite places to visit and I am sure you'll love it too!
