Earth Day & March for Science

Happy (belated) Earth Day, since I didn't have time to blog about such a fun filled day yesterday! Yesterday was quite an amazing day! For earth day, we did a lot to celebrate helping our planet and had a lot of fun doing so.

🌎
We started the day by dropping off donations and leaving with a few nice finds from the Thrifty Critter's yard sale in the morning. Thrifting = used stuff = awesome for the environment (keeping unused items out of landfills) + all money benefits animals so it's helping others and the animal community as well. (Please like their page and support this amazing group!)

Then parked at the stadium to participate proudly in the March For Science Gainesville. Both of our jobs revolve around science, it's where our interests and passions lie, and science literally makes the world go round so we had to represent. Marched to Bo Diddley Plaza, visited the Plenty of Pit Bullstable, got an awesome acai bowl from Big Island Bowls Gainesville, bumped into friends from all places and listened to some inspirational speakers. (Science + standing up for what we believe in + sharing kind messages that are pro-environment on repurposed cardboard + eating plant based deliciousness + pit bulls = awesome)
Then walked to the Friends of the Library 2017 Spring Book Sale, where once again, repurposed finds are the best finds and the best kind of shopping for the planet. I limited our purchases as we had to walk a ways back to the car with them and I forgot a tote bag! But the finds were awesome , and only cost $7 (books shown in pic + some big crosswords for grandma). Maybe one day I'll actually be able to sit down to READ a book! I've been having my FOTL finds stacking up for years now... actually getting the time to read them far less often than the pace at which they stack up on the book shelf. Oh well.

Cook books are something that I ALWAYS make time for browsing through and actively using. I found more inspiration for a raw diet = awesome for the planet and your health (plant based foods cut back on all the pollution caused by factory farming, less cooking = less electricity and energy used to make the food, plus whole, unprocessed and uncooked foods have many health benefits.) I have a huge stack of awesome vegan cookbooks but am gravitating towards raw eating at least half of the time and want to experiment more with it. Stay tuned for some sharing of these awesome raw recipes in future blog entries!

Finally a long walk back to our car caused us to stumble upon a random festival, and finish a 5.5 mile hike for the day in total which reduced our carbon emissions from driving and impact on the planet 🌎
Of course we ended our night with gardening, and being a little not so kind to the planet by using chemical products to once and for all take care of the nasty ants that are carrying away and devouring our monarch caterpillars one by one 😭🐛🐜 but in the end, it's all to make a difference by home growing as much food as we can and helping butterflies in our own backyard. We are organic 99% of the time and hope Mother Earth will forgive us.
Happy Earth Day! 🌏 ✌🏻
