Modoc

One of my favorite stories of all time... "Modoc" by Ralph Helfer. This book was returned to my personal bookshelf instead of being given away or donated because I will indeed read it again one day; possibly many times. It's a heartfelt story that had me in tears so many times throughout the book. So visually descriptive I felt like I was watching a movie, and it is incredibly hard to believe it's based off of true stories.

Modoc is the story about the greatest elephant that ever lived. The story of the bond between him and his trainer Bram (whom was born the same day as him) is inspiring and tear jerking. They go through so many amazing adventures together; enduring the circus (multiple times), surviving being on a sinking ship, becoming a wonderful team living for years in India, surviving a war, and much more. It's not only an unbelievable adventure but a love story. This elephant was such an amazing creature that she inspired the naming of our pet cockatiel Modoc that we rescued (who is a boy) after her, since he himself has endured many hardships in his lifetime.

A great read for just about ANYONE... it is sure to bring a smile to your face. There was apparently a similar story written for children about her adventures, so this book is at an adult level read; but still an easy read. I can't imagine anyone not enjoying this story.
