Show and Tell (Spring of 2002)
Having been a graduate (although he nearly failed out) of PetSmart puppy training class, along with a few tricks I had taught him all by myself, I was excited to take Alvin to my 7th grade writing class one day, where my favorite teacher had allowed us to have a day of "show and tell" and bring in a pet to school. My mom arrived just on time to visit the class with Alvin on my day of show and tell, and in came Alvin, prancing into the classroom with his 2 brightly colored casts from his recent accident. His tongue protruded wildly, and his saliva sprayed on every student in the room.
The tapetum in his eyes glowed red, and my classmates portrayed reactions that varied from excitement, pity, and fear. As Alvin approached the front of the class, I told everyone about a new trick I had been teaching him, but was a little nervous that with his wild behavior and excitement of new smells, new faces and a new place, he wouldn't respond. I got his attention with my hand gestures, and made a gun out of my hand and pointed straight for him, shouting "BANG!" (since he can't hear, the sound was always just for an added affect to the audience). Alvin, even with his broken bones dropped down the ground. The class was amazed and excited, and Alvin's eyes scanned the classroom widely from where he lay on the carpet. He jumped up with excitement to continue with new tricks including his favorite, "Give me Five" which really translated to him as "Give me Ten" since he always thought that by high fiving me with both his paws at the same time would earn him extra credit. In the end the class loved him. Everyone always loved the devilish Alvin....
