Is beauty worth the cruelty?

Promoting animal rights is an important issue (to me at least) and I realize that a lot of people lack involvement or awareness of how animals are treated and tortured all over the world every day for human needs. It's not necessary to be cruel.. there are MORE humane ways to use animals for meat, eggs, milk, fur, hair, bones, feathers.. for every day human uses and such (I don't agree with it, but if it's going to be done there are ways to be less cruel about it), but due to cost, the lack of animal rights in other countries, and disgusting people running the industries- torture is a common every day occurrence behind closed doors and we tend to turn our heads to it because we just don't see it. Marketing hides it, advertising would never mention it, and the walls of slaughterhouses and testing facilities are  heavy, dense, and firmly locked tight to keep the public eye away. Non-essential  purposes like torturing them to test out beauty products, household cleaners, and some medical testing that isn't effective on animals, is a total waste of animal lives. Obviously companies won't advertise HOW they have created their products... but if it's not advertised to be cruelty-free (and even sometimes when it is!) they are often hiding something they don't want you to know.

Women have no idea that when they wear make-up, they are often supporting animal cruelty when purchasing from companies that test their products on animals. All kinds of animals.. rabbits, guinea pigs, rats, and even dogs, cats and monkeys have to endure torturous testing, pain and death just so that we can look beautiful and wear our favorite products while knowing they are safe for humans. It's no secret if you really do your research about it. However, there are many alternatives to cruelty-filled brands.. as many companies opted to go cruelty free, in ALL countries, and still sell amazing products that work well without causing any pain or torture on innocent animals.

Here is a list of some companies that do not test on animals, and if you want to learn about more or see if your favorite brand tests, you can search here. There are many other companies  (such as Mary Kay and Revlon) that claim they are cruelty free, but they still sell their products in countries like China where it is mandated that they must test on animals there. To support these businesses is only supporting them to keep torturing animals elsewhere, even if it isn't here. There are also other brands like Sally Hansen, that don't test their final products on animals.. but some of the ingredients in their make-up have been tested, making them only partially cruelty-free. The companies on this list refuse to sell any products where they are forced to test on animals, and take no part in torturing animals  opting to be 100% cruelty free. Here are some stores where you can purchase cruelty free make-up!

And don't forget cruelty free beauty tools! Synthetic is the only way to be sure your make-up brushes have not been made from animal and possibly created in a cruel way (same with artist brushes if you are a painter like me!). If they are made of "hair", that hair is often really fur from the fur industry, which is a horror in itself where animals get beaten, tortured, and skinned alive. Even when it is hair, it usually isn't obtained by kindly cutting a few hairs off the animal without them feeling it just to make your brush. If you know what the meat industry is capable of (if you don't, you must open your eyes to where your food it coming from!), you must realize that the other animal using industries are no different.

By supporting cruelty-free brands to keep them in business and spreading the word to your friends about the companies that DO test... we eventually may be able to persuade them to stop testing and realize it's not necessary because they are losing the business. Even if it's never enough to change the success of a company, I like to know that I personally didn't contribute money towards torturing more animals, and instead gave it to a company that refuses to do that.

My personal favs for a tight budget are Wet n Wild and elf. A bit pricier, Urban Decay is my absolute fav and they have bright, pigmented shadows and long lasting liners that are worth the price. Burts Bees is always the best for chapstick for sure... and it's all natural too! There are tons of others, you just need to educate yourself on what products are truly cruelty free and which are not! What's already been purchased and used is one thing, but it's never too late to switch to a new product (whether it's a beauty product or anything else!) :)
